Immortal sind zurück! Nein, doch nicht… Es sind Sinlust, eine Epic Black Metal spielende Combo aus Frankreich… Und doch gibt es bei ihrem neuen Album „Sea Black“ ziemlich große Ähnlichkeiten zu den letzten Werken der norwegischen Black-Metal-Legende! Aber eins nach dem anderen…
Sinlust wurde 2008 vom Gitarristen Chris In Lust ins Leben gerufen und startete 2011 mit dem selbst produzierten Album „Snow Black“ durch. Es war der Beginn einer düster-fantastischen Konzeptgeschichte, welche aus der Feder von Sänger Firefrost stammt und deren erster Teil mittlerweile als Buch unter dem Namen „Noire Neige“ erhältlich ist. Und hier fangen die Ähnlichkeiten zu Immortal an… Eine fantastische (Eis)Welt, die sich um das gesamte Bandkonzept spinnt, kennen wir von den Norwegern unter dem Namen „Blashyrkh“. Ich persönlich finde die Idee zu einer solchen Umsetzung äußerst interessant, und von daher gibt’s von mir einen dicken Pluspunkt für die Kreativität. Nach den durchweg positiven Resonanzen zu „Snow Black“ begaben sich die Jungs 2015 mit acht neuen Songs erneut ins Studio und erfreuen uns nun zwei Jahre später mit „Sea Black“, dem zweiten Teil der Geschichte, welche die direkte Fortsetzung zum Vorgänger darstellt und über das Label M & O Music am 28. April erschienen ist.
Musikalisch erinnert mich „Sea Black“ anfangs sehr an (Wer hätte es gedacht?) eine Mischung aus Immortals „Sons of Northern Darkness“ und „All Shall Fall“, reicht aber lange nicht an die Kälte der Nordmänner heran. Im weiteren Verlauf des Albums kommen allerdings noch einige überraschende Heavy- und moderne Power-Metal-Elemente hinzu, die dem Ganzen geschickt doch noch eine eigene Note verpassen. Mit jedem Hören entdecke ich hier neue Dinge und meine anfängliche Skepsis verfliegt.
Mein Fazit zu „Sea Black“: Nach mehrmaligem Hören stelle ich fest, dass Sinlust ein solides und abwechslungsreiches Werk geschaffen haben, welches problemlos eine gewisse Spannung auf mehr aufbauen kann. Wer Immortal liebt, wird Sinlust mögen!
Immortal are back! No, wait… This is Sinlust, an epic black metal combo from France… And yet, in their new album „Sea Black“ there can be found some similarities to the last works of the Norwegian black metal legend! But one by one…
Sinlust was created in 2008 by the guitarist Chris In Lust and launched in 2011 with the self-produced album „Snow Black“. It was the beginning of a gloomy-fantastic concept story, which originates from the pen of singer Firefrost and whose first part is now available as a book under the name „Noire Neige“. And here are the similarities to Immortal… A fantastic (ice)world, spinning around the whole band concept, that we already know from the Norwegians under the name „Blashyrkh“. Personally, I think the idea of such an implementation is extremely interesting, and so I have to give Sinlust a big plus for their creativity. After the consistently positive resonances to „Snow Black“, the guys went to the studio with eight new songs in 2015 and now, two years later, we can enjoy „Sea Black“, the second part of the story, which represents the direct continuation to the predecessor and has been released by the label M & O Music on 28th of April.
Musically, „Sea Black“ reminds me a lot (Who would have thought so?) of a mixture of Immortal’s „Sons of Northern Darkness“ and „All Shall Fall“, but it does not reach the coldness of the Norseman. When the album continues, however, some surprising heavy and modern power metal elements are added, which gives the music a distinct note. With each listening I discover new things and my initial skepticism vanishes.
My conclusion to „Sea Black“: After repeated listening I realize that Sinlust have created a solid and varied work, which can easily build up a certain suspense for more. One who loves Immortal, will also like Sinlust!
